An Ongoing Destruction: Refugee Women project accepted!!!!!!

Our project named An Ongoing Destruction: Refugee Women with the number 2023-1-AT01-KA152-YOU-000119137 refernas has been accepted. Our project, which is a youth exchange project, will be realized in Vienna, Austria between 23.02.2024 - 01.03.2024 through our partner countries.

The main reason for choosing migrant refugee women in our project on refugee women; The lives and struggles of migrant women have often been neglected and ignored in migration studies. For many years, migration has been defined in the literature as a process decided by men but affecting women for reasons such as marriage and family reunification. While men have been considered as the subject, women have been treated passively as wives, mothers and young girls of marriageable age.

Women are involved in the migration process only through the responsibilities they assume as a result of their gender roles. The main reasons for women-specific migration include economic reasons as well as violence, forced marriage and difficulties in divorce. Violence against women has been an important reason for women's decision to migrate. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the number of displaced persons worldwide has reached its highest level. This figure was 89.3 million in 2021. Displacement is not only caused by wars, but also by persecution, enslavement and the danger of survival in conditions of severe exploitation. Although the most common areas of employment for migrant women around the world are domestic work and caring for the sick and elderly, Syrian women are mostly employed in agriculture, textiles and services sectors with very low wages. As Verein für Gemeinwesenarbeit und Minderheiten Integration, our goals are;

1- To create ideas and awareness about what can be done about the health problems of refugee and migrant women,

2-To provide information and raise awareness about the oppression, physical and sexual violence and many life-threatening traumas that refugee and migrant women are exposed to during migration,

3 - Informing and raising awareness of young people that patriarchal values, cultural and individual taboos negatively affect health literacy in reproductive health, sexual health, maternal and child health and the transformation of acquired knowledge into behavior,

4-To seek answers to the questions of what can be done against employers who employ refugee and migrant women as slaves for long hours and how to raise awareness and work on this issue,

5-Raising awareness for a better understanding of the problems of refugee women,

6-Sharing the problems of disadvantaged refugee women, understanding the importance of volunteer work with our participants and getting rid of negative prejudices,

7- Visiting refugee camps and witnessing the problems of refugee women more closely,

8-With our project, we aimed to improve the negative behaviors of young people towards refugees such as prejudice, racism and hate speech.
