The topic of our project No One Wants to Leave Home! with reference number 2023-1-AT01-KA152-YOU-000120405 and the aims we have achieved in our project on this topic are given below.
The subject of our project:
While contemporary discourse on refugees brings new dimensions to the issues and concepts involved, they are undeniably rooted in a broad and historical foundation. The concept of refugeeism and asylum-seeking falls within a broader category of forced migration rooted in history, representing a phenomenon that forces individuals to leave their own land for a variety of reasons. The most important goal for refugees and asylum seekers is to continue their lives in an environment free from threats to their existence.
However, refugee status brings with it a life of hardship and uncertainty, often compounded by multiple traumas stemming from the circumstances that led them to migrate. The movement of people is not just a topical issue; on the contrary, it has become a topic of attention and debate, perhaps more than ever before, due to the influence of the media and new communication technologies.
In the context of this topic, the issues we address in our project and the aims of our project:
Our project aims to address several pressing issues, including the lack of understanding surrounding the challenges faced by refugees. Additionally, we aim to tackle the scarcity of empathy, often coupled with the belief that such hardships could never befall oneself. The uncertainty about the reception refugees will encounter in host countries is another concern we aim to alleviate. Furthermore, negative perceptions shaped by inaccurate or biased media coverage contribute to the challenges faced by refugees.
Drawing on Baudrillard's Theory of Simulation, our initiative also confronts the problem of young people being trapped in a simulated universe, especially those who are influenced by perception studies conducted through social media. The project also addresses broader social issues such as the segregation of individuals and the promotion of ideas of racism and discrimination. We acknowledge the erosion of ethical, moral and human values over time, leading to increased individualism and selfishness, and we aim to spread the word that this is an urgent issue that needs to be addressed.
